Lance Centanni-Sachs has been a student of Serchmaa since 2007. When he returned to the U.S. after time in India and Nepal as a Buddhist monk he felt disconnected from his body and without a specific direction. He began taking classes with Serchmaa through random connections and it resulted in finding something he never imagined a possibility- and one that he wanted to dedicate himself to learning and promoting in the future. He has been training with her since then and feels that there is an indirect insight into the self in the training process. Contortion becomes not just a performance art but is also a development of patience, discipline, focus and effort. Overcoming one’s own fears, ideas about physical ability and limitation and pushing your own boundaries. As much as contortion is beautiful to watch he thinks it is beautiful to practice and the inner experience and physical changes from it can be benefit anyone.
